MINI adds Clubman variant to feisty JCW range

17th May 2019

MINI have introduced a powerful JCW (John Cooper Works) Clubman model to the range, making it one of the most powerful models ever approved for public road use in the brand’s sixty year history.

The 306hp 4-cylinder turbo engine in the new MINI Clubman JCW (fuel consumption combined: 38.1–39.8 mpg; CO2 emissions combined: 169–161g/km) provides outstanding performance, combined as standard with a new 8-speed Steptronic sports transmission and an ALL4 all-wheel drive system.

The latest generation of the 4-cylinder engine developed for the JCW models with MINI TwinPower Turbo technology exceeds that of the previous engine by 75hp at maximum output. Maximum torque has also increased by 100Nm to 450Nm, and acceleration performance has improved. The new Clubman boasts acceleration of 0 to 62mph (100km/h) in 4.9 seconds, which is 1.4 seconds faster than in the previous model. For the first time in a MINI, the maximum speed of the new top sports performer is now electronically limited to 155mph (249km/h).

The sound of the newly developed sport exhaust system is dramatic however, when driving at a relaxed pace the sound is more reserved. The twin exhaust system leads into a new, particularly large-volume rear silencer. To optimise emissions, the sports exhaust system is fitted with a petrol particulate filter and emission control in both of the new models is in line with the Euro 6d-TEMP standard.

The latest generation of the 8-speed Steptronic sports transmission displays enhanced internal efficiency and an extended steering axis inclination resulting lower engine speeds when driving in a higher gear. Shift paddles are mounted as standard on the steering wheel of both models for manual gear selection.

The standard ALL4 all-wheel drive system plays a central role in optimising the cars’ traction, agility and driving stability. The intelligent controller of the ALL4 system is interconnected with the DSC Dynamic Stability Control and constantly calculates the ideal power distribution ratio between the front and rear wheels.

The central air inlet has a honeycomb pattern structure and an optional contrast paintwork is available in red for the roof and mirror caps, adding to the cars sporty look. Inside the vehicle, JCW sports seats come as standard, with a JCW sports steering wheel and anthracite headliner.

The standard equipment includes LED headlights, MINI Driving Modes, Navigation Pack offering a 6.5 inch display with touchscreen function, a redesigned graphical display and Real Time Traffic Information (RRTI). Comfort Plus pack is provided as standard including front and rear Park Distance Control (PDC) with Park Assist, a rear view camera, seat heating and folder mirrors.

18" JCW light metal wheels in Black Grip Spoke design are offered as standard, with JCW 19" Circuit Spoke wheels available optionally.

The new MINI John Cooper Works Clubman is available from July 2019, priced from £34,250.
